#GTDisasterRecon: Meet the team

Good morning from Atlanta, Georgia, and good evening from Beijing, China! Over the next few days, we'll visit Beijing's famous Bird's Nest, The Great Wall, and The Forbidden City. Before we start exploring, we wanted to share a little about the team.

Donald Smith
Major: Civil Engineering
Focus: Structures/Fluid Mechanics
Year: Undergraduate 4th year
Fun Facts: I'm a structural engineering intern with Patrick Marshal & Associates (PM&A). China & Japan will the 15th & 16th countries I’ve visited outside of the U.S.

Lieutenant Kieron McCarthy
Major: Civil Engineering
Year: Current Graduate Student (Bachelor's from United States Coast Guard Academy)
Occupation: Officer, United States Coast Guard
Hometown: Upper Lake, California
Fun facts: My focus at Georgia Tech has been geotechnical engineering in the fields of sustainability and earthquakes. I have been in the Coast Guard for three years in enforcement and port security as team leader and project officer. I love to see new things and take the road less traveled. This will be my first trip to Asia and I'm excited to have the opportunity to learn eastern culture and history.

Major: Industrial Engineering
Year: GRADUATED UNDERGRAD WOOHOO (finished my 4th year…and a summer).
Fun fact: I almost missed my flight for this trip because of 4 gate changes.

Fun fact: I did not tell my parents that I went bungee jumping until after I did it.
